Phantom quartz is a crystal with a clear pyramid or phantom inside it, which is formed over pre-existing crystals. The included crystal is visible due to some variation in composition that makes the boundary of the included crystal visible. Such crystals show the contours of many smaller crystals, known as phantoms.
